Enchi Youth Parliament

HISTORY

During a youth leadership workshop on democracy, participation, learning & active youth (DESPLAY 2008), the organizer and facilitator inspired young people in Enchi to be interested in community service, development volunteering and local governance. Research & community needs assessment group work sessions became an eye-opening experience for the 30 participants who were selected from various schools and communities. This was organized by Frank- a DESPLAY Africa graduate.

One of the findings and resolutions of the Enchi youth/school leader’s workshop is the establishment of a community/school based youth-led, development and volunteer organization to actively participate in governance and community development in the Aowin Suaman District.

The District Director of the National Commission of Civic Education (NCCE) witnessed the resolution and offered to assist as patron to the group to be named ENCHI YOUTH PARLIAMENT or DESPLAY ENCHI (DESPLAY- Democracy series participation learning & active youth)

In 2008 the group with 30 members was established and named Enchi Youth Parliament.
