Girls To Mothers Initiative
BACKGROUND
G2MI is a rural based, youth focused private, not for profit and non governmental organization, committed to the empowerment of young women and girls involved in commercial sex as a way of living, in communities in the Niger Delta Region of Nigeria. It aims to improve the lives of young girls and women by reducing their involvement in commercial sex through the provision of comprehensive sexual reproductive health, family education, and marketable vocational and income generating skills.

Girls To Mothers’ Initiative (G2Mi) is dedicated to the total empowerment of women and girls to be able to lead responsible, positive and self sufficient lives through the provision of comprehensive sexual reproductive health, family education, and marketable vocational and income generating skills.
OUR MISSION
G2Mi’s mission is to give young girls and women honor and dignity.
OUR OBJECTIVES
- Create a fast-track process for young women’s self-realizations of their overall development as a strategy for coping with the economic, social and psychological damages caused by early pregnancy and dropping out of school.
- Develop the employability of out of school girls through vocational training in computers, sewing, catering, and other small and medium-scale enterprises.
- Change the traditional thinking of girls and young women on their dependence on men for income.
- Educate and enlighten young women on the consequences of promiscuity, early pregnancy, and abstinence and thereby increase their self-esteem
- Promote the use of condoms and voluntary confidential counseling and Testing (VCCT.)
- Enable young women to make informed decisions about themselves by providing information through community-based counseling services, and through the use of mobile phones.
- Prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted infections through the use of IEC materials: stickers, banners, billboards and rallies in the community.
- Help young women to be better prepared for parenthood.
- Provide appropriate schooling opportunities for young women who want to return to complete primary/secondary school in adulthood.
