CITIZENS OF THE WORLD 

"Citizens of the World" was initially created as a movement, by technical staff of different  United Nations agencies, who - in their spare time - developed initiatives to raise awareness on issues not always sufficiently discussed and with no consensus within the UN.

 

Within this perspective, it has developed particular action to mobilize the international community to provide awareness and concrete support to the needs and rights of vulnerable groups such as child soldiers, young women, people living with disabilities and the groups more directly infected and affected by HIV / AIDS.


MISSION
Today, driven by a group of people with extensive experience in their areas of expertise, it develops programs and initiatives to promote. social, economic and cultural inclusion and equal opportunities for those living in particular situations of risk in order to contribute to the fulfillment of their human and individual rights. To achieve this, outreach programs are developed to engage and provide adequate support to reduce discrimination regarding any individual or environmental factor.


STRATEGY
To promote access of individuals, groups or populations most vulnerable to goods and services available through new technologies, promoting the production, dissemination and sharing of information, experience and knowledge appropriate to different populations over the Internet and networks community based support.

 

TARGET GROUP
People living in particular conditions of risk due to their age, gender, ethnic origin, economic and health status, sexual orientation or affected by other social or individual risk factors, particularly those living or coming from other Portuguese speaking countries or communities, with priority for Young People and those who have limited access to information, resources and related needed services.

Among the initiatives some programs are in development providing support to:

Ø      People particularly at risk or living with HIV / AIDS;

Ø       Children and Young people who face barriers to their access to education, whether derived from the school and educational systems, or from problems such as those raising from a disability, ethnic or linguistic origin, social situation, abuse or neglect ;

Ø      Professional and NGOs engaged in community-based actions providing guidance and support to particularly vulnerable people regarding their rights to public services in sectors such as health, education, justice, social welfare and environment.
